Design concept:
This medal and its form imply a spiral curve and the image of a dragon. Spiral curves speak of one’s life force and they also express a dynamism of movements. Although spiral curves are based on a circular structure, they never return to the same point for once. This expresses a sense of infinity that is compared to our history, growth and life.
“Rising dragon” is a term that is used to express a state of increasing force while “Descending dragon” is a term that is used to express the arrival of the dragon from above in order to protect our land. In Buddhism, “ Rising dragon” is also used to imply a meaning of “上求菩提" which is a practice amongst monks in order to achieve their enlightenments while “下化衆生” expresses an understanding and enlightening of everything that has life.
I felt these two motifs appropriately express the meanings of 4 awards:
the prize in Sustainable Development, the Prize in Biopharmaceutical Science, the Prize in Sinology snd the Prize in Rule of Law for the Tang Prize.
